Sync not syncing document changes made on server side

If a document (e.g. version 1.0) is added to a local folder initially for syncing, and then once sync’d to the server the document is edited on the server (via checkin/checkout) creating version 1.1 on the server – the changes are not sync’d to the local folder. However, if the document (version 1.0) was added to the server initially (to be sync’d to the local folder), then any updates on the server (via checkin/checkout) sync to the local folder fine.
